Every family that lives across two countries ends up making the same decisions, usually under time pressure and usually with incomplete information. Do we move the money now or wait for the rate? Buy here or hold there? What does this cost us in tax, and in which country? Is this the right year?
None of those questions has a clean answer. They have trade-offs — and the trade-offs move against each other. Improve the currency and you delay the purchase. Optimise the tax and you lose the timing.
This is the work of holding those five things in view at once, so a decision can be made deliberately rather than reactively. Not forecasting — nobody can forecast a currency — but laying out what each choice actually costs, in both countries, at the moment it has to be made.
